February 2 to April 30, 2009
JP curated a solo show for Salvador Guiterrez of Brown Street Gallery, being shown at the Napa County Airport.

Flying Solo at the Napa Airport
We are excited to have Salvador Gutierrez's first solo show at the Napa Airport. The exhibition was organized through our curatorial intern program curators training program. It includes twelve new paintings mostly on canvas with a few works on paper.

Volunteer, JP Panter writes in her curatorial statement for the show. "As a fellow viewer of Sal's playful and narrative paintings and drawings, I am particularly curious about his visual language. At first glance, it is clear he is telling us many things about what appears to be familiar people and environments. The mystery to each story keeps the (relationships created within the art) as well as an investigation of his won story-telling process by painting."

This exhibition will be on view through the month of April, 2009.

Spring Nature Sketchbook Series at Nimbus
April to May 2009

Ages: Teen to Adult   Instructor: JP Panter
Sketchbooks provide a valuable store of visual images for artists to jot down ideas, inspirations, and important observations for future art making - or create your sketchbook for sheer enjoyment. Did you know that sketching integrates math and science into visual literacy?

In this class we will cover: different types of media, pen & ink, watercolor, charcoal, collage and much more! We will study perspective & composition, landscapes and natural history, still life, figure, architecture and interiors, portraits, and birds & mammals. Students will be asked to work in their sketchbook on free assignments outside of Nimbus, and create a final collaborative book with their classmates.

"JP" is a sketchbook fiend and will share her vast collection of marvelous sketchbooks with you. $65 (includes sketchbook)

Artist Instructors: Reuben Godinez, JP Panter, Christina Williamson, Nick Cann, & other Nimbus designing dandies
Nimbus Arts is teaming up with our pals at the St. Helena Rec. Department for THREE WEEKS of theatrical fun "Big Apple" style. Budding thespians will experience classical theatrical skill building sessions from a real director - direct from New York City. Students will get training in singing, acting, movement and more theater gaming. The fun won't end there, our fabulous Nimbus instructors will help you set the stage. Roll up your sleeves for some mixed media madness. Learn to work larger than life to conjure backdrops for the stage. Pull out pencil and tool belts to build props that bring our production alive. Fashionistas will craft and stitch costumes to give the final show a fantastical flair. Don't miss out on this marathon performance and art camp. A grand finale Broadway show for the community will end this great experience.

Today's kids will remember and be inspired by the Japanese Anime "Howell's Moving Castle" and "Castle in the Sky" by Hayao Miyazaki. In this class, you will be the cloud and castle creator. Students will decorate a box to hold our magical sky and 3-D Castle in the Clouds collage creating a treasure art piece to spark the imagination.

Nimbus Arts: Calder Class I: Calder's Circus
Sunday, July 12, 2009, 9:30am to 11:30am

Instructor: JP Panter
Create a fanciful ringmaster, lions, and clowns in our whimsical Calder Circus class. Using mostly wire along with a few found objects, we are going to bend and wiggle a most unusual Big Top of animals and entertainers. You'll learn how to use simple jeweler's pliers and a wire jig. No prior sculpting or tool handling necessary! Join us under the Big Top for a three-ring circus of family fun!

Nimbus Arts: Calder Class II: Bent Wire Mobiles
Sunday, July 19, 2009, 9:00am to 12:00pm

Instructor: JP Panter
The beauty of the mobile is that it can be both fanciful and decorative as it floats through the air. Let your mind drift to create forms inspired by the environment around us-clouds, mountains and birds. Or wind your mind around the abstract for a play in shape and form. In this class you will draw, cut, and bend wire to make a timeless and balanced Calder-esque mobile - an elegant sculpture to keep for years to come.
